Southampton CC Memorial Lecture 2012: Mark Carwardine

We are delighted to have secured lecture by Mark Carwardine. Probably best known to many for his BBC series “Last Chance to See” he is also a highly regarded wildlife photographer and has been chairman of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year completion for many years. Last year Outdoor Photography included him in the world’s 40 most influential nature photographers. This is a rare chance to see Mark showing and discussing his work as his schedule simply does not allow the time. Booking details are on the poster.
Many thanks and I look forward to seeing your members at the lecture.

Camera Fayre at Locks Heath and Sarisbury camera club.

Hello Everyone,
This is just a reminder that the camera Fayre is booked to take place on the 1st April 2012 at Locks Heath and Sarisbury Camera Club.

So far we have one definite booking for a table and a major shop who is very interested in attending. We want to make this a success but need you to book a table. You must have unwanted items to sell so why not take a table for only £15.00.
Please let me know by the 3rd March 2012 at the latest if you wish to attend this event, otherwise we will have to cancel which would be a shame.
Regards
Debbie Mitchell

Jeff Morgan Lecture 15th April 2012

This is the first of the SPF ventures into putting more things on for Club Members from all Clubs in the SPF.

I know I've only just sent this out, but omitted to say that cheques should be made payable to SPF please - very important!
Very few clubs could afford to host Jeff and there isn't any shadow of doubt that £10 per ticket represents excellent value. This if first come, first served so please don't delay in letting your members know about this. There is plenty of parking at the venue.

The cost of a 5ft X 2ft table is 15.00 pounds which is payable in advance. (Cheques made payable to the LHSCC) The hall will be open from 8am so you can get yourself set up and the fair itself will be open at 09:30 hours till 16:00 hours.

Book early to avoid disappointment.

SPF News Update

Following the very successful Exhibition at Salisbury, the SPF immediate focus is now on the PAGB Print Exhibition 2012. Over the last couple of years our Federation has performed poorly at national level; it is not that our photographers are not producing the quality of work, but more that the best work is not being submitted for selection. The standard of our entry is limited to what is available to the selectors, so this year let’s pull out all the stops and see where we can get to with the best work from our members!

Images are being collected at the upcoming Spring Reps Meeting on Tuesday 14th February, so please look out your best images and pass on to your club rep in time for this.

Apart from the usual business at the Reps Meeting, this time there will be two significant items on the agenda:

Firstly, following a request supported by many clubs for titles to be read out when prints or PDIs are shown in our leagues and competitions, the Council decided to put this to a vote of all the club reps. There are some very strong feelings on both sides of this issue, so please make sure that your views are communicated to your club rep in advance of the 14th.

Secondly, as an “added value” element to the meeting, we will have a presentation of two PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit panels. These will be sets which have been successful at Credit and Distinction level. Leo Rich will be on hand to talk through the process of the Awards. This should be very helpful to photographers considering applying for an award, and is a step towards 2014 when our Federation will be hosting the Awards. Any club members who are interested in seeing this presentation are welcome to attend the Reps Meeting, the only restriction being that it will be in a non-voting capacity. The meeting will be held at Littleton Millennium Hall, near Winchester, SO22 6QL, commencing at 7.45 p.m.

As ever, do keep up to date will all that is happening through the SPF Web-site http://www.southernfed.org.uk/

Don’t forget the 2012 Print and DPI Championships being held on 25th March. Check out the details on http://www.southernfed.org.uk/championships.htm

Now that the Print and PDI Leagues are well under way, you can check out you club’s league standing by clicking on http://www.southernfed.org.uk/league.htm

Thank you
