Posing Pouch Comes To Life

If you follow Andy Cubin's "Posing Pouch" article in Professional Imagemaker, you might be interested to learn that himself and his co-tutor Terry Hewlett at Photography Workshops in Wiltshire, are launching the Big Posing Workshop, based on the articles.

Aimed at all levels of photographers, the Big Posing Workshop, to be held on 25th May 2014 at the King's Arms in Malmesbury, aims to provide a full day of posing instruction and shooting.

In small groups, photographers will work with experienced models, in both studio and location environments, having first studied the essential elements of how the body can move and be directed into pleasing poses.

Subjects, including sourcing models, using social media through to advanced posing techniques are covered, as well as morning and afternoon practical directing and shooting sessions, ensuring the photographer gains in-depth knowledge and the vital hands-on skills, to maximize working with any model subject of any experience level.

Phil Hill a young freelance editorial and commercial travel photographer
and Adam Edwards – Zenfolio

Phil Hill has been based in Perth Australia but is now currently back in South West UK. Travelling extensively, shooting stock images, completing assignments and commissions in Australia, across Asia, and of course internationally, not happy unless on the move.

“The three most important things in this life to live by are as follows: it has got to look good, sound good and taste good. My aim has always been to photograph vibrantly colourful pictures of the world that I love to travel, graphic in composition and rich in context, content and compassion, these are everything
in photography.
The world is amazing, you meet wonderfully humble people at every possible corner and never the politics and stereotypes you read about."

From modest beginnings in England’s west country, Phil picked up a camera quickly discovering its unique ability to act as skeleton key and backstage pass to the parts of life normally untouchable.
Together with years of caravan holidays, bad weather and burnt BBQ sausages Phil felt the insatiable need to travel with the itchiest of feet leading to constant camera equipment carry-on luggage headaches. Moving to Australia, the sausages still get burnt but the travelling and the photography is much better.
Phil’s work has been published internationally: Japan, Russia, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and featured in The Telegraph (UK), Daily Mail, You Magazine, BBC, The Sunday Times travel magazine, Lonely Planet magazine, Garuda Indonesia Colours magazine, and National Geographic Traveller and much more.

Graham Harrison ARPS a professional photographer for the MOD and previously a lecturer at Salisbury College in Photography has agreed to lead an evening shoot around Salisbury. Sunset is at 8.24 pm so this is the ideal time to capture evening photography, late golden hour & when the sky is that magic blue between sunset & dark. This is a free event & open to all levels of photography from absolute beginner to advanced with the RPS Southern Region committee on hand to help out.

Workshop with IGPOTY founder at Lacock Abbey

Hello,

I am emailing you to let you know about an interesting workshop that could be of interest to your members and is taking place on 10 May at Lacock, with the founder of the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition, Philip Smith.

The course under the title ‘Better plant and garden photography’ and topics covered include macro, depth of field, composition, digital processing and learning about light and colour. It’s suitable for all abilities and a chance for you to question and explore your whole approach to garden photography. The workshop is more about exploration and discovery than it is taking wonderful pictures on the day. Opportunities exist for a one to one chat with the tutor and there will be a guided tour of the IGPOTY display in the Botanic Garden of Lacock Abbey.

The workshop costs £75 per person and lunch is provided. Tickets are very limited so we advise early bookings to avoid disappointment. Box office: 0844 249 1895 or nationaltrust.org.uk. A poster with information is attached.

Workshoppers should bring their camera - full battery and a storage card (any format). If you have a DSLR or compact system camera with interchangeable lenses you will get more out of the day than if you use a simple compact camera.

You might be aware that Lacock Abbey is the birthplace of photography, as William Henry Fox Talbot invented the photographic negative here in 1835.
We celebrate his world-changing invention at Lacock, and our on-site museum has just gotten a makeover:

Thank you for your time. I hope you find this information useful. If you like, please share it with your members and friends.

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

With warm wishes,

Kristine

SCC Timothy Allen lecture

Southampton Camera Club’s 2014 Elliott Mansfield Memorial Lecture.
Timothy Allen gave last year’s lecture and it was so good that people leaving demanded that we asked him back.

His work takes him all around the world and is devoted to recording the huge diversity of human life and the landscapes that they live in. The stories behind his pictures are as absorbing as his photographs.

Last year he was the overall winner of the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year award.

The lecture is on 9 November, but tickets are already selling fast. An availability chart can be found on the club’s website.
Many thanks
