Neil Cave Workshops

Further to our last charter update we are very please to now announce the confirmation of many of our plans for next year.

To start, we are now able to confirm that the very special visitor to the Swanage Railway is the T9! We have been working on this with the Swanage Railway since May and it is with much thanks to the Bodmin & Wenford Railway and the NRM that 30120 will be visiting the railway for around 3 weeks during March 2014. During her stay she will be staring in a week of Charters during the week of the 17th March. These Charters will see her Double Heading on two of the days with Manston as well as being paired with the lines two Bullied Coaches. Full details are attached below. We are also hoping to bring two further days of special T9 action the following week, these will be run by other operators and will hopefully be the 26th, 27th & 28th. Information on these dates will be available as soon as possible but for now just keep these dates in mind.

Next we turn our attention to the Western Region and continue with the theme that is starting to appear for Spring 2014. Our first Western Region themed event will see us return to the West Somerset Railway on the 24th & 25th of March. This is not only the first time the line will have hosted any Lineside Photo Charters in around 5 years it will also be the first time that a Black BR (W) Mogul will have appeared on the line in preservation. We have been working with the WSR & Didcot Railway Centre over the Summer to bring the Mogul to the WSR for their Spring Gala (Themed the Withered Arm) and of course to make the first Charters on the line for some time be some of the most memorable. Our first day will see 5322 work a freight over the line, followed the next day by some true BR(W) action when we see her paired with the lines resident BR Green Manor, pulling a long rake of Chocolate & Cream Coaches. Full details are attached below.

Continuing the Western theme and the work we have done over the Summer with Didcot Railway Centre, we are very pleased to announce that Mogul, 5322 will continue on her travels away from Didcot and appear at the Llangollen Railway for their Spring Gala. As we are away in the IOM during this period running our Events on the Holiday Island (details attached) we will only be able to offer one day's Charter with her on the 14th of April as she needs to return to Didcot for Easter. However we have decided that with her double heading and pulling a local freight at the WSR we should vary the action somewhat, so our Llangollen day will see her pulling a rake of Red & Cream MK1's which we think you will agree is one of the best pairing you will see in preservation. Full details are attached below.

Can I please ask you to reserve your place(s) on any of the above TimeLine Events by email first as we expect demand to be high.

Next I would like to return to the last Charters of the year for us and remind you that we are running two days with 3205 at the South Devon Railway over the 9th & 10th of December. These Charter are designed to give 3205 her first outing in full BR Livery. This week she is being lined out and will for the first time in preservation appear in her original 1960's BR Green. we still have places available for these Charters and would welcome your support. Full details are attached below. However can you please email your reservation for this ahead of sending your booking.

Future Dates for your diary.
KESR 2nd & 3rd April, Terrier on freight.
FR/WHR, 25th & 26th April, ME & Prince on mixed trains.
WLLR, W/C 28th April, actual dates still to be confirmed, The Earl and Countess.
6th - 9th and 12th & 13th May, BIG NEWS ON THIS COMING IN THE NEXT WEEK!
P&DSR, 3rd & 4th November, Manor on Chocolate & Creams plus night shoot at Kingswear.

Last point to note, our trip in April (7th - 12th) is likely to be the last one as it is becoming more and more difficult to operate these events on the IOM due to various circumstances beyond the control of David. So if you have never been or haven't been for a long time or just love returning year after year I would strongly advise you look seriously at this trip as you may not get the opportunity again. Full program details are attached below, places are strictly limited on this trip and will be allocated on a first come first served bases.

I hope these plans are of interest to many of you and we will look forward to seeing many of you on our TimeLine Events soon.

Regards
Neil.

Gold Hill, Shaftesbury as never seen before...

Hi,

Most of your members, no doubt, will be familar with, and will have taken images of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury.

So I'd just like to give you advance warning that next Monday, December 2nd, there will be an opportunity for your members to come and take some unique photographs of the hill as it has never been seen before.

This year is the fortieth anniversary of the famous Hovis advertisement, featuring the 'boy on the bike' and directed by the now world famous film director Ridley Scott and as part of Shaftesbury & District Chamber of Commerce's Christmas Spectacular we are delighted that the actor who played the boy, Carl Barlow, has agreed to re-visit Shaftesbury and be our guest of honour to switch on the Christmas Tree lights

This is for one night only, the lights are being set around 4.45 p.m and will be lit until around 9.00 p.m.

We would be grateful if you could let all your members (and any others that you feel it would interest) know of this opportunity.

We hope to see you all next Monday,

Kind regards,
Dennis & Ruth

Sid Finch and the Sanger Trophy

We have received a lovely email with details of Sid Finch from his daughter.
What has this to do with the Club?
Answer: a member H M Wood took a Portrait photograph of Sid and entered it into the 1961 Sanger Trophy. So this information has been placed in the Archives section of our web site. If you click HERE you can see for yourself this fascinating story.

Salisbury lights up for Christmas

Salisbury lights up for Christmas

SCC
This year’s countdown to Christmas in Salisbury will officially begin on Thursday 21 November 2013 at 6pm in the Market Place with Salisbury City Council’s annual Christmas Lights Switch On event.
This popular free event for all ages, promises to be a great way to start the festive season in Salisbury. Local bands and performers will get the evening’s entertainment off to a lively start on the main stage from 6pm, providing a great evening of entertainment for all the family.
This year there will be performances from street dance group Elevate, followed by talented all girl band ‘The Vanillas.’ Fans of Sandy Ince from Sticky Toffee Jazz are in for a treat as Sandy will perform some classic festive numbers. There will be a blessing, followed by a short speech by the Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Mrs Penny Brown. The countdown will begin at approximately 7pm followed by an impressive firework display.
Live music will continue in the Market Place with Innervision, a modern hi tech 5 piece band covering a wide selection of chart music from the 1960’s through to the present day, and guaranteed to create a great party atmosphere.
Business Manager Claire Burden said, “We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Christmas Lights Switch On event in the Market Place to get Salisbury’s festive season and the first of the late night shopping evenings off to a lively start!”

Community reporters raring to go

Community reporters raring to go

Reporters
30 media savvy individuals turned up to Salsibury City Hall last week to find out about how social media can help them promote all that is great about Salisbury and South Wiltshire. And, they were brim full of enthusiasm and ready to get theproject rocking.
Community reporters are everyday folk like you and me who are passionate about the place where they live. They file reports using Our Community Matters, hunt out news and stories and bring us the latest from around the area. Mary Culen was at the launch:
“Community reporting is a great way to promote what we are doing, it’s easy, simple and gets our news out to the thousands of visitors to this great site. Steve Milton our local Community Area Mananger supports us with training, equipment and grants and the rest is down to us. I would recommend local groups to give it a go. Don’t be put off by all the tech language, its is really easy. “
Community reporting is supported by Wiltshire Council, the NHS, the Police and other partners and it aims to make the Our Community Matters websites the first point of call for all things community. If you missed the session at the City Hall you can catch up with the event here.
Why not dive into the new world of social media to help raise the profile of what you do – get involved!
