Powell Publishing Charity Christmas Cards - Christmas shots

A year ago we contacted Camera Clubs across the country in search of a 'Special Christmas card shot'. We had an excellent response from members, who sent in a variety of wonderful photos. Some were selected by our Art & Design Manager, Zara Pyke, to mock up and present to some of the major charities we work with.

One image was chosen by the Children's Hospice Association Scotland -a photo of a robin, sent in by Ann Collins of Wokingham & East Berkshire Camera Club whom we awarded £100 and £50 to her club.

This year we are looking for new photos to present to charities and would like to offer the same reward for any photos that are selected by a charity.

Popular categories include:-

Robins
Red Berries
Snow Scenes
Animals in snow (Cats, dogs, sheep, horses)
Postbox in snow

If your members would like to send in your photos for consideration please email to:-

Thank you and kind regards

PAGB News No 39

Hi All
Welcome to the Issue 39 of e-news which is mainly concerned with an obituary for Don Morrison but has some important news for those who have sent entries to the 2011 GB Cups plus several notices of forthcoming events and an interesting article on judges manipulating Digital Images that they are judging in club competitions.

Issue 40 of e-news in February will be distributed via the "managed distribution" which I recently informed you of. Already we have transferred our database and, if you know of anyone who would like to subscribe, please direct them to www.pagbnews.co.uk/enewssubform.html I would like to assure you again of the confidentiality and security of this database. Your address will not be shared with any other business or person and we will only use it for e-news and related supplements, none of which you need download unless you are interested in the content.

We will be using HTML in future for future e-news, a simple document which will link you seamlessly to the current issue of e-news on a website. We will also list back issues and this means that those of you who load it to websites will probably have the option of loading a link instead of the entire e-news although we do not object if you prefer to do it that way.

BANNER/PAGE HEADER Can anyone design a banner for e-news that we can use on the website and probably as header for the newsletter? I know there are many creative readers out there and I'm sure we could make a design statement. The only rule is that it must incorporate the (rather old fashioned) PAGB logo and that our title, e-news, is written lower case just as I have used it.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Calendar 2012 Competition

To celebrate The Wiltshire Wildlife Trusts 50th anniversary we are offering everyone the opportunity to put forward a photo for our 2012 anniversary calendar. The theme is ‘Wild Wiltshire’ and we want your best wildlife and landscape photos to show off our county and its wonderful wildlife throughout the year.  The calendar will be sold across the county and online and should be available from the end of May 2011.  We invite you to send your photographs to photos@Wiltshirewildlife.org or to Anniversary Calendar 2012 at the Trust.   Please include your name, contact number or email, and the location of where the image was taken.  Remember all photos must have been taken in Wiltshire and we are unable to return hard copies.  Make use of the dark evenings to go through your photo collections or get out there and click your way into our anniversary celebration.  Closing date for entries is 11th February and we will notify winners by the end of February.  We look forward to seeing your entries.

Regards
Keely Everson

Southern Federation Exhibition is coming

Dear Club Members,

Do not forget that the SPF Exhibition is to be hung tomorrow.  The Federation is always grateful for help in doing this and as the local club we can do this more easily than most other clubs. This operation usually takes from 9.30am to 12 noon. Refreshments are provided for helpers. You will meet many members from other clubs too. So if you can spare some time it will help to get the exhibition hung that much quicker. This takes place on Thursday 6th Jan in the Library Galleries upstairs. Remember to sign yourself in at the enquiries desk before going upstairs.  This is for fire regulations as at the club.

Then on Friday evening from 7.30pm the SPF hold the Preview when the Trophies will be presented.  You are welcome to attend. Meet lots of people and the exhibition including the Projected Images.  Drinks and nibbles available.

The exhibition is open to the public from Saturday 8th until 30th Jan.  SPF site

Just to remind you our next club meeting is on Jan 10th when we will be showing the SPF Exhibition Projected Images.
AND we shall have a Teach-In trying to answer some of your photographic queries. To that end it is sensible to ask us the queries beforehand. Please can you send Richard by email any problem you may have in this regard. After our visit from Barry Senior recently you may like to revisit some of the techniques he revealed but you now cannot quite remember!

Regards
the Committee

'Life in the Freezer' by Ben Osborne - in your area for one night!

If you’re inspired by nature or have a passion for photography, don’t miss this special evening with Ben Osborne.  Organised by Barkers of Ringwood, Ben’s inspiring slideshow is headlined as ‘a most absorbing, educational, amusing, remarkable evening.’
'Life in the Freezer'
by Wildlife & Landscape Photographer
Ben Osborne
Life in the Freezer is an inspiring and entertaining show about Antarctica.  It includes superb photographs of the wildlife and landscape of this dramatic continent and tells the story of the making of the BBC TV series.
Behind-the-scenes photographs of film crews, filming techniques and the presenter (Sir David Attenborough) give a unique insight into the creation of television wildlife documentaries.
Ben Osborne has worked in many parts of the world but is best known for his images of Antarctica in the book of the BBC series ‘Life in the Freezer’.  His work has been published in numerous magazines and he works regularly with BBC film crews – most recently for ‘Planet Earth’, a major series about the Natural History of the world.
Ben won Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007, beating off 32,000 other entries from 78 countries. The competition is one of the most prestigious photographic events in the world and is one of the leading promoters of wildlife and environmental photography. Ben uses Páramo for his global travels and we are delighted to support this event.
