'WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE LOOSE'

a Presentation by Mark Carwardine.

At the Arc Theatre Trowbridge.

Wednesday 31st October 2012 starting at 7.30 pm.

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE LOOSE
Mark Carwardine is a zoologist, an award-winning writer and best-selling author, an outspoken conservationist, a TV and radio presenter... and a wildlife photographer. He presented the weekly half-hour programme 'Nature' on Radio 4 for many years, as well as the acclaimed BBC-TV series Last Chance to See... with Stephen Fry, and chaired the judging panel of the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition for seven years (2005-2011).  In this highly entertaining and informative lecture he will chat about his passion for wildlife photography and his efforts - some successful and some not - to photograph everything from great white sharks and Amazon river dolphins to albatrosses and Sumatran rhinos, using a motley collection of hides, vehicles, boats and planes. Inevitably, he'll also have a thing or two to say about the state of the world along the way.
Please take a look at Mark Carwardine's website http://www.markcarwardine.com.
More details and some of Mark's images are now on www.devizescameraclub.co.uk

FREE Open Sony International Photo Comp

Dear Salisbury Camera Club
I write today in regards to the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards currently opened for entries. On this, I would like to work out the best way to reach your photographers and encourage them to enter the awards before it's too late.

As you may already know, the competition is FREE to enter and they can win up to $25,000 as well as global exposure of their work. Also, the winning images will be exhibited at Somerset House in London from the 26th of April 2013 for a month as well as traveling to various destinations around the world throughout the year.

As you may already know, the awards have discovered many talents already in previous years and help some photographers' career to get wider international exposure. Not only winners benefit from the international media coverage but also the shortlisted and commended photographers.

Last year, the awards and the shortlisted and winning images received up to 16 millions worth of press coverage worldwide.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Wishes,
Giulia Messina

Wanted : Skilled Volunteer to run Computer

Wanted : Skilled Volunteer to run Computer / Laptop for SPF Annual Exhibition Judging on Sunday 25th November

The 2013 SPF Annual Exhibition is to be judged at Sparsholt on Sunday 25th November. We all valued Steve Kirkby’s work for the Federation and knew he would be a difficult man to replace.

If we cannot identify a suitable volunteer in time for the 25th November we are in danger of having a prints-only exhibition at Salisbury Library this year.

Any interested parties should contact George Walsh as a matter of some urgency to discuss what is involved. George may be reached on 01962 880 527

Very many thanks.

Developing the Mind's Eye - a photography workshop

Martin Urmson: Developing the Mind's Eye - a photography workshop
Urmson-Burnett Gallery, 34 Winchester St, Salisbury

From this… to this!
And…
urmson IMG_6474as shot copy.jpg
Some gallery visitors have shown an interest in photography workshops or courses.  Catering for diverse levels of experience, Martin has devised an introductory workshop series which should allow photographers at various levels to gain insights and get more from their photography. The workshops will run over three weeks in October and are at a low introductory cost. Numbers will be limited.

Cameras, no matter how expensive, are not very good at recording what the mind's eye sees, but thinking like a painter and using the right tools can redress that.
We will address the issues of ‘correct’ exposure and colour, but only briefly, as we will take a more imaginative look at our own images to develop their aesthetic potential.

Introductory cost for all three sessions is £30, payable in advance.
martin@urmson-burnett.co.uk , telephone 07884 078187 or call at the Gallery at for more details, or to register your interest.

SEASON TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR 2013

The year will include ...

... plus interactive workshops, discussion sessions and member presentations.

2013 Season Tickets for members of the Digital Imaging Group will be available from 1 October, and for non members (including RPS members who are not DI Group members) from 1 November.
Non members may send in their applications now, and we will process them after 1 November in the order they are received. Perhaps now is the time to consider joining the Digital Imaging Group!
We have a full and varied programme for you for next year - eight full-day events as this year. Details for some events are still being finalised, and will be published on the RPS web site as soon as possible. And of course we will keep you informed month by month through these emails. Our events can be found HERE:
Ticket prices and how to apply can all be found on the RPS web site HERE:
The bargain ticket prices that we have been able to offer you during 2012 must, we regret, be increased to something closer to what they were in 2011, partly because we have are now required to ensure there is a preferential price for DIG members over non members, but primarily, our move to a larger venue has resulted in significantly higher hall rental charges, and has also required the purchase of new equipment. Those who came to our first event at the new venue all agreed that our larger air-conditioned hall was a significant improvement. Our new 2013 ticket prices still offer excellent value for money, I'm sure you will agree.
We hope the demand for Season Tickets will not exceed the capacity of the hall (100). but, even so, we advise early application to avoid disappointment. Remember a Season Ticket, for both members and non members, gets you eight events for the price of five.
We meet at:

WOOSEHILL COMMUNITY HALL
Emmview Close
WOKINGHAM RG41 3DA

We hope that you will join us for our events in 2013, and look forward to seeing you..
