Suggestions Box

Some time ago a member made some suggestions to the Committee. Sadly this information was sort of forgotten. Naturally the member complained. So in order that this should not be repeated it was decided that we should have a proper channel for members to send suggestions to the Committee.
And so a Link has been placed on the front page of our site directly under the rolling set of images.
However, despite its prominent position it was clear that even the Committee members did not realise that this idea had been implemented. No mention was made on this NEWS section either.
Now, however, it is mentioned so if you have ideas that you like the Club to think about here is an easy way to make you suggestion known.
An do not forget that under every entry on the NEWS section there is a Comments box.

Photography Day, Saturday November 23rd in Bournemouth

Hi - we would be grateful if you could forward the following information on to your photo groups. We had such a successful day earlier this month that we have decided to run another photographic workshop.
If you fancy a photographic walk around Bournemouth with Hattie Miles, a freelance photographer covering features and news for newspapers and magazines, then please read on.

Hattie is running a further workshop on Saturday November 23rd from 10 to 2. The workshop costs £35.

Get tips on how to improve your photography.

Learn how to make your photographs relevant and interesting.

Enjoy some of the quirky stories on photographic themes that Bournemouth has, and discover some unusual places to take photographs.

This should be an interesting, interactive, informative and fun few hours for anyone keen on learning how to make the most of their photography.

Quote from the last workshop:

"The 'Photo tour' was excellent. I really enjoyed it and Hattie's stories really added to the tour.
The teaching on how to put group photos together was a real bonus.

Yes, I would consider another one of these and would recommend them to anyone."

We would meet just outside the Daily Echo on Richmond Hill, Bournemouth BH2 6HH

RHS Photographic Competition 2013

With the closing date for this year’s RHS Photographic Competition fast approaching, we’re having one last push to remind photographers to get their entries in before Friday 1st November to be in with a chance of winning the coveted title of RHS Photographer of the Year 2013 and the top prize of £1000. The standard of entries for this year is already high, but we’re keen to make sure that no budding entrants are left behind, so we very much hope that you will pass this message on to your members.

According to judge and professional garden photographer Clive Nichols, ‘shooting at dawn in the autumn is the perfect time to take pictures outdoors as flowers and foliage will still be decorated with dew and cobwebs which can make for some striking images.’ Now that we are in the midst of autumn it’s the perfect time to get outside and capture some truly spectacular shots.
Full details of the competition including the entry form can be found on our website – www.rhs.org.uk/photocomp.

With very best wishes

Only in England: Photographs

Only in England: Photographs by Tony Ray-Jones and Martin Parr
21 September 2013 - 16 March 2014

Fascinated by the eccentricities of English social customs, Tony Ray-Jones spent the latter half of the 1960s travelling across England, photographing what he saw as a disappearing way of life. Humorous yet melancholy, these works had a profound influence on photographer Martin Parr, who has now made a new selection including over 50 previously unseen works from the National Media Museum's Ray-Jones archive. Shown alongside The Non-Conformists, Parr's rarely seen work from the 1970s, this selection forms a major new exhibition which demonstrates the close relationships between the work of these two important photographers.
