Laurie began photographing wildlife in 1970 and has since worked almost exclusively in Scotland where he enjoys photographing a wide range of natural subjects from lichens to golden eagles. He was recently voted one of 30 people from the past 300 years whose work has significantly contributed to the understanding and enjoyment of the natural history of the Scottish Highlands.
He is an entertaining speaker on his photographs and the environment. He is a judge for the ‘BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year’, a competition in which he has previously won twenty three awards !
Laurie will be talking about his methods and locations, telling tales of his exploits, and showing a great many new and previously unpublished images including some from a recent year-long commission on the Isle of Harris photographing Golden Eagles.
It will be a fascinating evening for photographers, non-photographers and all with a love of the natural world.

Neil Cave - Waverley and Didcot Workshops

Hi to all.
Paddle Steamer Waverley
A few weeks ago I canvased opinion on whether anyone would like to join us on water to photograph the Paddle Steamer Waverley. Well the response was good enough to warrant making an event of it. I have already mailed those who showed initial interest and have, I believe got their bookings so am now able to open the event up to a wider audience.
Already the 5th of October is full but if you would like to join us on one of the other days please let me know as soon as possible as spaces on other days are limited.

Didcot Railway Centre
Given the avalanche of bookings for our June Didcot Railway Centre events I am really pleased to be able to confirm that a third weekend has now been secured. As you would expect people that were on the waiting list for the first to weekends have been given priority for the third weekend and I am now confident that I have their bookings covered so am now able to offer this event to the wider audience.
This weekend will be slightly different to the first two in as much as we will be bringing the Branch Line with the wonderful Radstock Signal Box and turntable into the event. The Branch will feature the GWR Railmotor on Saturday evening and 1450 with the Red & Cream Auto on Sunday morning. We will still be using the Shed area extensively and of course the Coal Stage at first light.

If you would like to book on this event could I please ask you to email me your reservation before sending your payment to David. You may also pay using Paypal, please let me know if you would like too when emailing your reservation and I will send you details of how to make your payment.
Thanks again for the continued support.

SPF Exhibition Assistant Secretary

Geoff Kelland has given years of help to George Walsh with the setting up of the SPF Exhibition in Salisbury Library - and helped take it through to the excellent Exhibition we saw last January, with framed prints. He is now stepping down and an Assistant Secretary is most definitely needed. Geoff would be very happy to help with advice and easing someone new into what is required but do please ask your members if there is someone who would be interested in helping. I'm happy to pass on any enquiries about what it entails and George will be around on the AGM at the end of May to discuss if anyone is interested. Work doesn't really start on this until September and it would be really helpful to have someone in place earlier than that.

100th Southampton International – Opening Night : 27th April

2013 is a very special year for the Southampton International – one of just a small handful of exhibitions around the world who have reached the magic Centenary.

The official opening will take place on Saturday 27th April commencing at 5.00pm.

The evening should not run much past 9.00pm.

The location is the Copythorne Parish Hall, home of the Southampton Camera Club, which is easily accessible from J.1 of the M27. Post code is SO40 2NZ
(club’s website with directions : www.southamptoncameraclub.co.uk )

There will be a showing of all the award winning PDI’s together with a selection of acceptances. There will also be a static display of around 150 accepted prints, again including all 90 award winners.

There will be trade stands from Permajet and Aaduki (the photographic insurers).
And there will be a very special buffet to celebrate this momentous achievement.

Presentations will be made to around 20 of the award winners and the exhibition will be officially opened by Rosemary Wilman Hon.FRPS, past President of the RPS.

YOU can be a part of the event for the princely sum of £5
We would like to celebrate this event with as many people as possible so if you would like to join us, please contact Maurice Pugh who oversees the entire event. Maurice may be reached as follows :
Hope to see many of you there.

Print Box Orders . - April 2013

The closing date for the next order of Nomad Print Boxes will be Friday 17th May. They should be available for collection at the Reps Meeting (AGM) on the 29th May. (or by arrangement)

Nomad describe these boxes as Heavy Duty in that they have two webbing straps and moulded black plastic corners. Please note that I am no longer offering the half sizes. (2.5'' & 3.5'') Now that they
are the same price as the next full size up, very few of you are ordering them. Obviously I shall continue to offer the 1⅝'' size because this is the box we all use for our club competition, league and exhibition panels.

Nomad do give us a discount on quantity. Obviously this cannot be reflected in the prices of individual boxes but any ‘profit’ is paid to the SPF, thus helping keep Federation costs down.

If you are considering ordering 6 inch deep boxes, please bear in mind that they are a substantial weight when filled.

Enquiries – jeneric2012@btinternet.com - Eric Bennett

Dimensions:-
Note all boxes are 21” x 17” and are available in the following depths.

1⅝'' - £22.70 Handles can be supplied at an additional cost of £3
2'' - £22.70 Orders in writing and with cheques payable to:
3'' - £23.30 E. J. Bennett. 6 Inhams Road, Holybourne, ALTON
4'' - £23.90 Hampshire. GU34 4EU
5'' - £25.00 When ordering please supply your postal/email
6'' - £25.70 address and the name of your club.

Note: There are two types of handle: Webbing handles and plastic suitcase handles. I wouldn't recommend the suitcase handles for boxes above 4 inches in depth.

Also handles can be a bit of a nuisance if you are going to be sending your box through the post on a regular basis.

'The Secrets of Landscape Photography' by Jeremy Walker, Wed at 8pm - Test Valley lecture

Dear all
Just a reminder about this Wednesday’s lecture ‘The Secrets of Landscape Photography’ by Jeremy Walker

This is a unique opportunity to learn some of the secrets of landscape photography from an award-winning professional. With his easy going personality, inspirational photographs and love of the landscape, Jeremy will take you from an appreciation of light itself, to some of the key techniques and equipment that he uses to capture his startling imagery.

Jeremy has many years’ experience as a professional photographer and his work has been used extensively by advertising agencies and corporate clients around the world. He is also a regular contributor to the UK’s top photographic magazines. Perhaps you will be inspired to enrol on one of his workshops, photographing Dorset’s Jurassic Coast or spending a week in Iceland’s volcanic wilderness with an opportunity to shoot the aurora borealis. See some of his remarkable pictures at http://www.jeremywalker.co.uk/web/index.php

Please join us at Broughton Village Hall on Wed 17th April at 8pm (doors open 7:30pm) and bring your friends and family along too (entrance is £3, to include wine & snacks, or free for full-time students).

We look forward to seeing you again
