Photography Workshops

Maria Falconer FRPS & Prof. Paul Hill MBE

A series of Workshops have been arranged by Maria and Paul. We know Paul quite well. He was one of our earliest influencers. We went to his home in Derbyshire on courses. He came with us to the USA. Here he assisted the then-current RPS President, who also was with us, to set up an RPS Chapter in California. We then visited the Yosemite Valley. One of the best photogenic places you can visit especially in Autumn.
I remember Paul telling Sheila, when staring at the magnificent sight of the Yosemite cliffs, do not try and copy Ansel Adams. Instead, take your own original arrangements. Easier said than done.
Paul is a good teacher. Maria, we do not know but her web site shows great versatility and originality,

An Invitation from the Focus Group

Last year the RPS and the Focus Group of Photographers conducted a
photographic workshop based in Stoke on Trent - an area rich in visual
potential.  The workshop will run at the end of September 2018.

The aim of the workshop is to provide "food for thought" to attendees who
are looking for a way to raise their photographic work to a higher level.
We do this through a combination of lectures by members of the Focus Group,
visits to sites of high photographic potential in the area and through 1:1
or small group sessions with Focus Group members.

If you are interested but have questions, please get in touch with Janey
Devine - her email address is janeydevine@gmail.com.  To register contact Mo
Connely at doc@rps.org doc@rps.org>.  Note: There is a 10% discount
for early enrolment.

We hope to see you in Stoke.

The RPS and The Open University launch new online photography course

Well worth checking out if you wish to get an LRPS.

The Royal Photographic Society and The Open University have launched a unique online digital photography course that will bring together The RPS’s 160-year experience in photography and the Open University’s recognised expertise in delivering education online.

Digital Photography: Creating and Sharing Better Images is a 10-week course designed to help people new to digital photography and those looking to improve existing skills – and to see the world in a new way. It will develop participants’ technical and visual skills through weekly practical assignments. Students will join a vibrant online community of their peers, to share, comment and learn from each other’s work, and they will receive feedback from expert photographers on their final assessment.

The course has been designed to give those completing it the skills needed to tackle The Royal Photographic Society’s Licentiate (LRPS) distinction in photography.

The 10-week course will cost £200 with participants working through The Open University’s award-winning online platform. There will be two presentations each year, with the first in June and October 2015. Students who successfully complete the course will be entitled to an RPS Certificate in Photography. It does not provide credit towards OU qualifications.

For further information visit: www.rps.org/online-courses

The media release can be seen here: http://www.rps.org/news/2015/april/digital-photography-a-rps-and-open-university-course

Please circulate details to your friends and fellow photographers in other clubs and societies.
