Photography Workshops

Maria Falconer FRPS & Prof. Paul Hill MBE

A series of Workshops have been arranged by Maria and Paul. We know Paul quite well. He was one of our earliest influencers. We went to his home in Derbyshire on courses. He came with us to the USA. Here he assisted the then-current RPS President, who also was with us, to set up an RPS Chapter in California. We then visited the Yosemite Valley. One of the best photogenic places you can visit especially in Autumn.
I remember Paul telling Sheila, when staring at the magnificent sight of the Yosemite cliffs, do not try and copy Ansel Adams. Instead, take your own original arrangements. Easier said than done.
Paul is a good teacher. Maria, we do not know but her web site shows great versatility and originality,

ISSUU

Even though I belong to the RPS until Monday evening I had not heard of ISSUU. Paul Cox the Regional Organiser for the RPS Southern Region [from Bognor Regis to Lyme Regis] talked about the Society and what he is hoping for in the near future.
He is planning a bumper year for events in 2019. He went through some of the happenings such as Camera to Print workshop in January. Help throughout the process of taking to printing is promised.
Our own Paul Rigg is on the Regional Committee and he is involved in Photo Walks such a 2 on Portland [7th October and next year].
I have had a look at ISSUU and found some fascinating magazines that you look at in great detail. For instance have a look at the Travel Groups newsletter. Or check the RPS Benelux Chapter magazine for a different insight into photography.
There are loads more photo mags to look at. An endless supply it would appear. Outside of the RPS there are more publications to see.
I will post more events as and when later.

Subject: Local photographer needed

Subject: Local photographer needed

Hi – not sure if you were aware, but this week and next week we are running a range of free events for older people, drawing on folk like the museum, library, musicians, leisure centres etal to put on something free under the banner of Silver Sunday marking this on the 7/10 and on Monday 1/10 incorporating International Day of the Older Person with a day of things at Five Rivers.

I am on the hunt for a willing local photographer to come and take some snaps of these events.

Do you think this is something someone from the Salisbury Camera Club might be able to help with?

Best regards,

An Invitation from the Focus Group

Last year the RPS and the Focus Group of Photographers conducted a
photographic workshop based in Stoke on Trent - an area rich in visual
potential.  The workshop will run at the end of September 2018.

The aim of the workshop is to provide "food for thought" to attendees who
are looking for a way to raise their photographic work to a higher level.
We do this through a combination of lectures by members of the Focus Group,
visits to sites of high photographic potential in the area and through 1:1
or small group sessions with Focus Group members.

If you are interested but have questions, please get in touch with Janey
Devine - her email address is janeydevine@gmail.com.  To register contact Mo
Connely at doc@rps.org doc@rps.org>.  Note: There is a 10% discount
for early enrolment.

We hope to see you in Stoke.

Mount Cutting Workshop from RPS Southern Region

As another year draws to a close we hope you have enjoyed your photography in 2017 and benefited from your RPS membership during that time.

We hope you have been able to attend one of our many events this year – they are a great opportunity to meet some of the photographers in your area and to compare notes over a coffee or lunch and to learn something about our craft that perhaps you would not have picked up from your usual sources. Whether you have made it to an event yet or not, we have plenty planned for next year so look out for a full summary of 2018 events early in January.

One event that may be of interest, but which missed the deadline for the Journal so will not be advertised there, is on the 11th February in Littleton near Winchester.

Longridge, who often attend our events, will be running a Mount Cutting Workshop – if you ever wondered how best to mount your precious photos or how the right mount would improve them, this is the workshop for you. More details here:  http://www.rps.org/events/2018/february/11/longridge-mount-cutting-workshop

And most importantly, on behalf of all of us on the Southern Region organising committee, I would like to wish you the very best of Christmas cheer and a very Happy New Year. And don’t forget to keep an eye on your emails, Facebook, Twitter, The RPS website and the Journal for all the events that we will be organising for 2018.
If you are interested in becoming an RPS volunteer in the Southern Region please contact me or anyone on the organising committee for more information.
Kind Regards
