Chichester Camera Club’s 14th advanced members’ exhibition

Members of your Club are cordially invited to Chichester Camera Club’s fourteenth advanced members’ exhibition to be held on
Saturday, 10th January 2015
at the North Mundham Village Hall.
The exhibition will be open between 10 am and 5 pm with refreshments, light lunches and teas available throughout the day. If anyone cannot make it on the Saturday, we will be open on the following day (Sunday) between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. We will have refreshments available on that day; however, access to the exhibitors may be limited.

Print exhibitors have had the choice of varying screen spaces with the freedom to display virtually any type of work they wish with no rules on size, subject matter technique, etc. whilst PDI workers are each allowed to have up to 6 images projected, again with no subject ruling. Based on our previous, similar exhibitions, this freedom of choice has resulted in a considerable display of artistic talent. The day has also proved to be a great social occasion.

Paths to Artistic Imaging in Photoshop. Book

My name is Russell Brown and I am the author of self-published book Paths to Artistic Imaging in Photoshop.

I am writing to clubs in the UK to let members know that my book is available at Amazon in the US for half the regular price until Christmas.

It is a great opportunity to grab a copy for yourself or as a stocking filler for like-minded friends or family.

The book has been well received, selling over 400 copies since its release and has been endorsed by my namesake, the Principal Creative Director at Adobe Systems.

It came about after my experience as a member of the Beta-reader team for Dan Margulis’ latest book Modern Photoshop Color Workflow.

I use many of Dan’s methods, plus a few of my own but for more artistic ends than him and it became clear to me that there was very little information available either in books or on the web on these techniques.

Anyone interested can use the Look Inside the Book feature on Amazon and can find more detailed information as well as examples of my work on my website.

If you could pass this information on to your members, I would be very grateful.

I live in Australia and it has been difficult for me to get the word out in the UK, so I thought it would be a good idea to approach photographic clubs directly.

Stocks of the book are only on hand in the US, however freight costs are not high and the half price special should mean that it is still an economical Christmas gift.

Please don’t hesitate to write if you have any questions.
Many thanks for your time.
Russ Brown

Wildlight Photographic Safaris

I am writing on behalf of Wildlight Photographic Safaris.  We are a small, well established travel agency based in New Zealand specialising in photographic safaris and tailor-made tours throughout East and Southern Africa.  I act as the UK representative for the company.

Every year we organise a number of set departure photographic safaris to Botswana, Tanzania and Namibia using hand picked wildlife guides and accommodation and all accompanied by a professional photographic guide.  In addition we can arrange private photographic safaris at a time to suit the client.

Based on years of experience we firmly believe we can offer photographic safaris of the highest quality providing our clients with unparalleled opportunities for capturing great wildlife images, a view supported by the feedback we receive on our trips.  Wildlight Photographic Safaris operate with a simple philosophy: the more time spent in the field, the greater your chances are of capturing an incredible wildlife moment.

I am writing to you today to ask if you would be interested in making your members aware of our products, by passing this e-mail to them, making the attached brochures available at your meetings of perhaps even giving me the opportunity to present to your members on the Wildlight photographic safari experience.

As a keen wildlife photographer myself and a veteran of over 20 safaris to Africa I can personally vouch for the quality of the product.  Indeed it was after joining one of the Wildlight safaris to Botswana as a client I became involved in representing the company!

Some safari brochures are attached and a link to the Wildlight Safaris website is here: http://www.wildlightsafaris.com/

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.  I hope to hear from you soon.

Artist’s Statement
The eye does not always see things the way the camera does. I consider photography to be the art form of painting with available light. Changing intensity, colour and direction of light results in a change of mood of the same elements. I respond to the intrinsic power of light that continuously alters shape and form. Further changes can be made by exposure and shutter speed, tools uniquely available to the photographer. Some of my images encapsulate a moment in time. Others are ethereal, dreamlike and considered, so requiring planning and long time exposures to see beneath the 'seen' image.

Dear Mr. Temlett,

I've attached a press release about an exciting new book Two Rivers Press has just published: Fox Talbot & the Reading Establishment. I think this book might be of interest to those members of the Salisbury Camera Club who are interested in the history of photography.

In 1843, the photography pioneer, William Henry Fox Talbot and his associate, Nicolaas Henneman, set up the first commercial studio to mass-produce photographs from negatives and they chose the Berkshire town of Reading as its location. The Reading Establishment, as it became known, marks a pivotal moment in the development of photography. Martin Andrews tells the story of these momentous events and places them in the context of the discovery and early history of photography.

Please feel free to forward this information to your members or anyone one else in the organisation who might find it of interest. If the Salisbury Camera Club wishes to announce the publication of Martin Andrews' book, 'Fox Talbot & the Reading Establishment' in your newsletter or on a website or Facebook page, please feel free to do so. We would be happy to provide a cover illustration and a URL to link to.

NB: the book is normally priced at £10.00 but as 2014 is Two Rivers Press' 20th anniversary, there is a 20% discount off all orders placed via our website, on the 20th of each month throughout the year. This means that 'Fox Talbot & the Reading Establishment' is only £8.00 if ordered on the 20th of August, September, October, November and December!

This book is also available in bookstores (though it might have to be ordered!)

There is more information and about Martin Andrews and the book on our website, from which one can also order copies of the book:

http://tworiverspress.com/wp/fox-talbot-the-reading-establishment/

We can also provide terms and conditions for review copies, discounts on purchases of 10 or more copies, or reselling of the books. If you require further assistance, please contact me or Sally Mortimore on 07834 827611 for enquiries about discounts, (Mon – Fri 10am-3pm): Email: sallym@tworiverspress.com or to place orders please contact Barbara on 0118 987 1452 or emailorders@tworiverspress.com.

The workshops are held in Dorchester, Dorset.
Kind regards,

Karen

Tour of Britain - Wednesday 23 July 2014

Where to watch the Tour of Britain
Wednesday 23 July 2014

The route for the Wiltshire stage of the Tour of Britain has been announced and now spectators will be looking for the best spots to catch the action.

Wiltshire Council is working with the tour backers and local communities to provide the latest information as the county prepares to host one of the major sporting events of the year.

Stage 6 will see more than 100 of the world's top cyclists racing through the streets of Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Devizes and Pewsey and the villages along the 67.5km Wiltshire route.

Sir Bradley Wiggins was crowned champion last year and thousands are expected to line the roads through the county following the success of the Tour de France in Britain.

The Tour of Britain starts in Liverpool city centre on September 7 and will arrive in Wiltshire five days later as the riders tackle a 205.7km stage from Bath to Hemel Hempstead.

Stage 6 starts in front of Royal Crescent in Bath before heading into Wiltshire at Lower Stoke at around 10.40am.

The race continues along the B3108 before the crowds gathered at Bradford on Avon get their first glimpse of the riders on the A363 Masons Lane at just after 10.50am.

Spectators can watch the peloton in Silver Street and St Margaret’s Street before the teams head for Trowbridge along the A363 and are due to arrive on the outskirts of town at around 10.55am.

Bradford Road, Stallard Street and Bythesea Road will be closed as the cyclists speed through the town centre and onto Hilperton at around 11am.

The villages of Semington and Seend will become a blur as the peloton reaches speeds of more than 40kmh on the A361 before the next stop Devizes at 11.20am.

Soon the beautiful Vale of Pewsey will be the backdrop as the riders take first the A342 before turning onto the A345 and onto Pewsey itself, arriving in the town at around 11.50am.

The peloton will head out of town on the B3087 before finally turning onto the A338 and out of Wiltshire.

Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the county of Wiltshire to a global audience and we are delighted to host Stage 6 of the tour.

“The Tour of Britain is now one of the major cycling events in the world and the perfect event to continue to encourage people to enjoy the benefits of cycling following the success of the Tour de France in Britain.

“Since 2012, we have recognised the benefits of building a legacy in Wiltshire and we promote a number of beautiful cycling routes across Wiltshire for local communities and visitors to enjoy. We want to continue to boost the local economy and have a host of activities that encourage people to get more active and improve their health and wellbeing.

"I hope this major event will see communities getting involved, like they did when we welcomed the Olympic Torch in 2012, and that they will take the opportunity to showcase what makes them unique. We hope that school children and local people will line the streets and show their support for the cyclists as they pass through our county.”

The full list of roads used on the 67.5km Wiltshire section of Stage 6:

11.42am - B3108 Lower Stoke before heading along the B3108 Winsley Hill and Winsley Road.

Loose Connection 14th to 28th June 2014

I am putting on with a group of like-minded friends a photographic exhibition in Salisbury.
We call ourselves 'The Loose Connection'

Please come along and have a look at some of our work. Fisherton Mill in Salisbury is an art gallery with an excellent café. The exhibition is upstairs. I hope you can make it.

I have used the artistic pseudonym 'Jeremy Roylance' - in fact just a shortened version of my full name, in case you were wondering …

To those who haven't the faintest idea who any of us are - I apologise for the intrusion - but please come to the exhibition anyway, if you can!

Regards

New Printer

Hi,

Just like to say a great big thank you to all the people who responded to me

about their experiences with their printers. I was amazed at both the quantity

of responses and the genuine desire to be helpful.

It became clear fairly quickly that Epson is the make of choice for most people,

and also that some are still performing well even though they are a few years old,

much as mine was.

It has filled me with the confidence to go out and buy Epson again.

Which one was recommended by most users?............. The R3000.

Nobody ever said that this was going to be cheap!!

Having done a bit (no, a lot, of research) there is one piece of advice that I found out

purely by chance. It may be useful to others contemplating a similar purchase.

To buy this from Amazon appeared to be over £100 cheaper than other retailers, but

it didn’t include any ink!!! Assuming that you are going to need ink, too, it is over £60

cheaper to buy from Epson themselves.

Buyer beware.

My thanks again to all respondents.

Phil.
