Photography fans wanted for National TV advert

Dear Salisbury Camera Club,

My name is Katie, and I head up the TV casting team at Raw Research. We are currently looking for real families from every part of the UK to feature in a lovely ad campaign ... so are getting in touch with organisations, groups and clubs from Land's End to John o' Groats (and all over Northern Ireland too) and everywhere in-between! We want to really reflect the amazing mix of people found in the UK, and include families from every nook and cranny with a mix of ages, generations and accents. We're reaching out to you because we thought you might have gorgeous images you'd be interested in sharing.

For this project, our friends at a well-known DIY company will mark their 50th year in business with a moving tribute to the last 50 Years of UK life in and around the home and garden. They have asked us to find families from all over the UK who have loads of family photos and home videos from this time who might like to be in their next TV ad.

We are looking for about 70 families in total - and about 10 or so of these will be featured more heavily in the campaign (TV adverts plus some short online films). Of these 10, some may be invited to do some filming too, in their home or garden.

We want to include all the big family moments and moments that show time is passing - weddings, christenings, birthdays. first days at school, anniversaries, BBQs, picnics, parties and time in the garden. There’s no such thing as too many pictures or videos! We want families where you can see fashion and wallpaper change as you flip through the albums - we want to see flares, perms and wheelie shoes!

Fee information:

Hero Families (prominently featured) will be paid £5,000 per family, plus a £1,500 voucher from the brand. These fees will cover use of family photos / home videos in the campaign, plus potentially filming at home.

Please note - some families may be invited for filming in South Africa. There would be a further £2,000 fee per family (plus all flights / accommodation etc provided).

60 Families will be asked to appear in a smaller capacity - i.e. a short clip or picture. They will be given a £300 voucher from the brand.

Ancient Landscapes Through the Lens: A guided photographic walk to Fyfield Down

Kit List Please bring stout shoes, clothing suitable for all weathers, photographic equipment, and any drinks and snacks you may require. This walk is not suitable for those with walking difficulties.

Duration  An 4 mile circular walk taking in far ranging views, rock formations and a reconstructed Dolmen.

Details  After a 1.5 mile walk an extraordinary shallow valley opens up, littered with massive grey stones – 1,000’s of them. This is Fyfield Down and the stones are what are left of a massive sheet of rock that broke up during the last Ice Age. From a distance, the sarsens have often been mistaken for flocks of sheep, hence their name Grey Wethers (Old English term for sheep). This stone was used to build famous monuments like Avebury Stone circle and Stonehenge

Once the entire area used to be covered with sarsen stones and you apparently you could walk for 2 miles stepping from stone to stone, but now there are very few left. The last order of sarsen stones from this area was in 1938 and four cart loads where taken to repair Windsor Castle.

  

This is one of the country’s oldest National Nature Reserves, created in 1955. The site is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of the landforms it contains and the wildlife it supports. The whole site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and its historical importance was recognized when it was made part of Avebury World Heritage Site.

   

The structure was rescued from imminent collapse in 1921 by archaeologists. Restoration work was undertaken to shore up the dolmen by incorporating a concrete support to one side which was engraved with the year of its salvation - 1921.

After 3 miles the Devil’s Den dolmen stands alone in a field at Clatford Bottom. The word 'dolmen', is thought to be a derivative of ‘dillion’, meaning boundary mound.

The Devil's Den is a Neolithic burial chamber first recorded in 1723 by the antiquarian – William Stukeley, who's illustrations show a long barrow of considerable length with several large sarsen stones which have all but disappeared now. Today the structure comprises of just three massive sarsens arranged similar to that of a Welsh ‘Cromlech’.

RPS Newsletter

It is worth looking at this Newsletter especially Graham Chubb. There is a photo there that reminds me of one Graham's photos. If you click on the photo it links to a lot more information. This link idea seems to work for most of the photos.
I like the top picture of a tree all in blue. The link takes you to more examples of the competition images.

Summer Outing and Barbeque

Tony Oliver informed the members at the AGM that a summer outing and barbeque had been arranged at Roger Kent's farm at Odstock on the Saturday the 27^th June 2009 start at 2 to 2.30pm.. Tony asked members to keep an eye on the club web site for a map and details of this event.

Bits and Bytes

There is a link to a spreadsheet that resides in Google Docs [aka the Cloud] that shows the meanings of most of the manifestations of bits and bytes such as Megabyte. This is in very simple terms but almost everyone will find something they did know before.

Beech Avenue near Bradbury Rings

The National Trust has launched a celebration of the iconic 3 mile Beech Avenue near Bradbury Rings between Wimborne and Blandford. As the trees reach the end of their natural life the Avenue now has a limited number of years remaining and the National Trust, which manages the estate, would like everyone with an affection for the landmark to get involved with a celebration.

They are inviting people to respond/interpret the Avenue in many ways; photography, art, oral archives, performance etc.

Any submitted/chosen etc, will be featured in an exhibition at Kingston Lacy next Spring.
