A New Year, and a New Name

A message from the President of the Southern Federation Glyn Edmunds

Many of you will be aware that our current name – i.e. the Southern Photographic Federation (SPF) causes quite a lot of confusion. At PAGB level we are the SF or Southern Federation and that is how we appear in the PAGB Handbook. The Scottish Photographic Federation is listed at the SPF.
There are a number of federations around the country all of which feature ‘Counties’. As in :
Midland Counties Photographic Federation (MCPF)
Northern Counties Photographic Federation (NCPF)
Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF)
And finally :
Kent County Photographic Association (KCPA)
All of these roll nicely off the tongue in terms of initials.
It has been suggested that it would be a great idea to switch to Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF). This would remove the confusion which currently exists vis a vis federations and the PAGB.
The Council have spent some time debating this matter, have decided it is a really good idea and will propose that the Reps are asked to ratify the change at the next meeting at Littleton on Tuesday 12th February. So clubs should discuss this before that date.
The timing is ideal as we would be just in time to reflect the new name in the 2014/15 PAGB Handbook which is due to be published in the autumn.
It would also be a great opportunity for a graphic designer in one of our clubs to come up with a new logo to reflect the new name. I think the Federation coffers could even stretch to a bottle of wine for the designer of the accepted design. So, please get thinking about this one.
If anyone has any queries about the proposed change then please get in touch with any member of the Council before 12th February.
