Dear All,
Are you up to date with the moving news in AV circles, or are you interested in knowing more, the Council is aware that there is a growing interest in AV both within and surrounding the Federation,
if you are interested; we would like your help on the Council. Can you spare an evening every month during the club season? Would you like to get more involved, and find out more about photography above the camera club level? Or just to keep an ear to the ground and feedback to us on what is happening, and perhaps move the fed forward with the interest of AV.
The Southern Photographic Federation Council, needs more help, to serve both your club and other clubs in the area.
Many people and council members have given a lot of time this year and previously, you have a chance now to show your own gratitude, by sharing the workload.
As they say, many hands make light work, you can take on as much or as little as you would like to. However, we do need new members to join, if we are to continue with all our responsibilities, and the events we host. We ask only for your time and enthusiasm; the cost of your travel to meetings will be covered by the agreed SPF rate travel expenses; and there is always help and guidance on hand from more experienced council members.
Make this spring a time to change, step forward, and offer your help. Everyone is welcome, even if you would like to help with an event - but not join the council, please let us know.
There are several roles on the Council, where we are hoping that someone will come forward and shadow the current officer, so that they can share the knowledge, and workload.
We are definitely looking for someone who is prepared to take on the role of Treasurer, Roy Lambeth has done an excellent job, I am sure you will all agree, and he will remain on Council in another role, but he has left the role of treasurer in a wonderful position, and everything is clearly set out.
All positions on the Council (excluding past President) are open for nomination at the AGM on Tuesday 24th May 2011 in Littleton. If possible we would like to have nominations on or before the 3rd May, with a completed nomination form attached. All nominations received by this date will be put on the SPF website, and any positions that have more than one candidate will be balloted by the clubs attending the AGM, but all nominations received up to the moment of ballot at the AGM will not be rejected.

SPF Finals Day 15th May 2011 - FREE!

This year the whole day is free to come and watch, you will see the best images from each division as well as watching the overall best individual print and pdi be selected from the highest scoring images from each club. It is a great opportunity to see the best work from around the federation, whether your club entered or not.
There will also be a mini competition this year, to see which of the invited clubs will represent the SPF at Connah’s Quay, in the PAGB Inter-Club Print Championships.

Derek Bunyard: "Composition in Art and Photography"
Wednesday 27th April 2011 at Fordingbridge Camera Club
Derek’s talk will be on 27th April. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Winchester. A couple of years ago, Derek gave us a talk on the ‘History of Photographic Art’ and for a number of us, it was among the best presentations of recent years. Many of us wander into photography with little knowledge of its history and the great photographers of the past. Derek has a great depth of knowledge of both photography and art and on this occasion we have asked him to compare composition in both art forms. If you have artist friends, why not invite them along. It should be a fascinating evening.

SUMMER WALK 2011
MARTIN DOWN BUTTERFLY WALK
Monday July 4th 2011
We propose to visit Martin Down Nature Reserve, off the A354 Salisbury-Blandford road, for this year’s summer walk. We intend to meet at the Martin Down car park on the A354 at 6.00pm. The car park is on the left, about 1 mile after the end of the short dual carriageway, approx. 4 miles beyond Coombe Bissett, coming from the Salisbury direction.Martin Down has extensive walks and a variety of habitats and should offer good photographic possibilities, assuming the weather offers a pleasant summer evening. The Fox and Goose at Coombe Bissett offers the possibility of a drink and a chat on the return journey, unless anyone has a better alternative suggestion!

From the SPF President to all Members
Dear All,
Can you spare an evening every month/six weeks during the club season? Would you like to get more involved, and find out more about photography above the camera club level?
The Southern Photographic Federation Council, needs more help, to serve both your club and other clubs in the area.
Many people and council members have given a lot of time this year and previously, you have a chance now to show your own gratitude, by sharing the workload.

FORDINGBRIDGE PDI CHALLENGE 2011
The annual Fordingbridge Camera Club PDI challenge will take place on Wednesday 11th May 2011. This is an invitation PDI event with ten competing clubs.
This is our third year of entering and we would like our selection to be as strong as possible. To achieve this we will be undertaking a specific selection for the competition at the end of April.
Any member who would like their work to be considered should submit pre-prepared PDI images to me by Monday 18th April at the latest. You can submit up to three new or previously seen images. All PDI images used in this years league, exhibition etc. will automatically be included in the selection and do not count towards the three submissions total. Images should be the same format as our own club PDI's, i.e. max 1400px (width) x 1050px (height), SRGB colour space, JPEG format.
Images can be e mailed to me aroliver@tiscali.co.uk or by memory stick/CD (returnable).
It is hoped that this will also give us a the basis of a good bank of PDI images for future competition selections.

NaturalFocus Photography Tutorial
I had so many people requesting that I inform them when my new NaturalFocus Interactive Photography Tutorial was available. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you in this rather intrusive way but I have not kept a list of specific people - hence this rather general email.
I am quite excited because over the past year I have been working on creating a very different type of DVD that teaches photography in a new and exciting way.
It is a computer program that, when popped into your computer, becomes a huge Interactive Photography Tutorial. So you don’t just listen, you read and interact - not like a book because you can go in any direction.
I am releasing it as a 13 part tutorial which arrives to you in the post each month. You will find full details and a FREE downloadable sample on my web site www.NaturalFocus.co.uk Please at least take a look at my web site.
Having taken a year to create the tutorial, I am very proud of the result and I hope that you find it not only informative but also inspirational and fun!

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINNERS DAY - APRIL 15th 2011
I am writing to inform you that Colin Varndell is organising a day of presentations and lectures aimed at beginners to nature photography on April 15th 2011.
Last year he organised one such event in the New Forest which proved to be a great success. This event is being held at the Old Manor Hotel, near Bradford-on-Avon commencing at 10.00am.
The main theme of the day will be learning how to take great pictures of natural subjects such as plants, fungi, trees, insects, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds.
Emphasis will be on how to search for pictures, mainly based on natural history fieldcraft and how to approach subjects in the wild.
In addition there will be some technical content covering composition, lighting, exposure and some post production for each subject. Delegates will also be given Colin’s lecture notes and fact sheets for all of the subjects covered.
