PermaJet Printing, Photoshop & Lightroom Training Days
Visit Frogmore House Garden 16th May
Dear Salisbury Camera Club,
I am writing to you on behalf of Blind Veterans UK, to inform you of an upcoming event which we believe will be of great interest to you and your photography club / society.
On Thursday 16th May, by gracious permission of Her Majesty the Queen, Frogmore House Garden, set in the grounds of Windsor Castle, will be open to the public. Blind Veterans UK has been kindly chosen to be the benefitting charity for this event. Frogmore Garden would make a stunning backdrop for any photographer – especially as public access is very rare.
Blind Veterans UK, formerly St Dunstan’s, believe no one who’s served our country should battle blindness alone. We provide vision impaired veterans with access to the finest quality services to help them discover life beyond sight loss. This includes the provision of lifelong welfare support, rehabilitation, training, long term nursing as well as residential and respite care.
Therefore, all proceeds for the Garden tickets will raise vital funds that will allow us to keep providing the invaluable services to benefit blind ex-Service men and women.
Tickets for the Garden are £5.50. Guided tours of the garden are available, subject to availability, and will cost and extra £3.00. Tickets are also available to purchase on the day but will cost a little extra.
For more information and to purchase tickets please visit http://www.blindveterans.org.uk/frogmoregarden.
We very much hope you are able to attend this event, being such a rare opportunity, whilst supporting a very worthwhile cause at the same time.
Thank you and kind regards,
Aaron Tillyer

PAGB Awards Workshop 19th May
Places Going Fast for Applicants and Spectators
Experience has shown that attending an Awards Workshop can greatly enhance the chances of a successful adjudication. To help our members, we are running a Workshop on 19 May 2013 at Copythorne Parish Hall (Cadnam) Winsor SO40 2NZ ( the venue for Southampton Camera Club)
Are you interested in learning more about gaining PAGB awards? Then this is an opportunity not to be missed. Come along as a spectator and hear the talk, have the opportunity to see work from different photographer’s panels. It is an opportunity for you to be enthused and motivated to look to the future of gaining a distinction in your photography.
We will make every effort to allow anyone who is coming as a spectator to discuss with one of the consultants what is involved. To help with this you are invited to bring 2 prints or digital images for discussion.
You may know a member of your club coming along for an assessment, talk to them, they may be happy for you to accompany them and sit in on their assessment to learn more.
Maybe you are already working towards a distinction, if so you would benefit from an assessment on the day; this could save you time and money.
Now only 10 places available for assessment at £15 a person. Spectators only £10
PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit, i.e. CPAGB, DPAGB, MPAGB
The PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit (APM) are rapidly gaining in popularity, with entries filling up many months ahead. The next APM Adjudications will be in November 2013 in Dorset; all Credit entries are now closed, and there are just a few available Distinction places left.
Please contact Leo Rich at PAGBawards@southernfed.org.uk if you wish to apply. Adjudications take place twice a year, hosted by different Federations. The next Adjudication will take place in April 2014 and places are already filling up fast.
Print and PDI Championships – Free Entry!
These are being held on Sunday 24th March at Knowle Community Hall, Greater Horseshoe Way, Knowle Village, Fareham PO17 5GR.
A major change this year is that the Championships will be run on similar lines to the GB Cup, with separate sections for large and small clubs. For small clubs the requirement will be for only ten prints and ten PDIs, so it is hoped this will encourage many more clubs to participate.

The winners of the large clubs sections will go on to represent the Federation at the Inter-Federation Championships.
Celebrating the Federation’s 50th Anniversary
Several ideas for celebrating the Anniversary were discussed at the Reps’ Meeting, but did not meet with much support. Subsequently a proposal was put by Peter Rocchiccioli for the production of a commemorative photographic book, with a selection of photographs from every club in the Federation; this has been enthusiastically agreed by the Council.
Hot off the press, the following is Peter’s information on the project:
The Federation Council has agreed with the support of some Clubs to produce a 50th Anniversary commemorativephotographic book similar to the RPS Portfolio one and two to celebrate this milestone.
Clubs’ deadline to have their work to Peter Rocchiccioli at the above address is by 1st July 2013. (No images to be e-mailed).
Peter Rocchiccioli
The Federation Council has agreed with the support of some Clubs to produce a 50th Anniversary commemorativephotographic book similar to the RPS Portfolio one and two to celebrate this milestone.
We are inviting images from the 62 clubs from their members with images representing their own area. Images required on either digital stick or disk. Jpeg high resolution photographs (300 dpi in RGB) they are to include title, photographer’s name and Club name. The work must relate to the club location/area, with up to 20 images per club. All of the sticks or discs to Peter Rocchiccioli, Ludlow Copse Lane, Hayling Island, Hants. PO11 0QA These will be returned at one of the Reps’ meetings.
Clubs’ deadline to have their work to Peter Rocchiccioli at the above address is by 1st July 2013. (No images to be e-mailed).
Each Club will be represented by at least one image and their details if provided by the Clubs, including a couple of paragraphs on the Club history.
In addition if any Club members have photographs of the Federation early days I would welcome the opportunity to use them in the book for the Federation history section.
The book will have the necessary bar-code system that would mean that we have to provide one for the British library and one for the RPS and PAGB; this would ensure that it will outlive all of us and it would be there for ever as a memorial to the Federation, the Clubs and Officers.
Then we could have a book launch day at some venue such as Winchester, Chichester, Basingstoke and Havant or any other location that we may be able to obtain, to coincide with both the 50th Anniversary and the new name for the Federation; include a buffet and we have the lot.
The financial risk is minimal as we would hope to sell the books to the membership as well as through Amazon.
Time is of the essence, we need to progress as soon as possible.
If any Club members have any suggestions or can think of any other point please advise me as soon as possible.
Peter Rocchiccioli
Design a New Logo for the SCPF
New Name for the Federation
At the recent Reps’ Meeting it was was agreed to rename the Federation as the Southern Counties Photographic Federation. The main driver for this is the ongoing confusion with our SPF acronym and that of the Scottish Photographic Federation ( also SPF). It was also felt that with our 50th Anniversary being this year, now is a good time to make the change.
Subject to approval at the AGM, the change is likely to come into effect once all of the necessary steps have been taken. One of these is to design a new logo for the Federation. We are seeking designs from anyone who has appropriate expertise or creativity, and indeed have already received some from graphic design enthusiasts. Any contributions should be sent to John Hodge who will be co-ordinating this, and need to be received no later than 20th April. This will allow time for the Council to make a selection prior to the AGM when the change will hopefully be formally approved.
Designs can be sent direct to hodgeriba@aol.com or to council2@southernfed.org.uk The logo will need to be suitable for use in both colour and black & white and on both paper and digital output. We’re looking forward to some exciting ideas to present a 21st Century face in our new documentation!

We have been attracting woodland wildlife to bait, in front of permanent hides during the winter, for many years now, and have built up what we feel is a unique opportunity for photographers. We have various hides on our five acre site which are available for hire to individuals or groups.
This winter we have added two new hides, one which is a ‘hole-in-the-ground’ chamber for shooting images of ground feeding birds with the lens at ground level, the other is a tower hide for photographing woodland birds preening, singing etc. Late winter/early spring sees the maximum number of birds due to the fact that natural food sources become very short at this time. We will continue feeding birds here until May, so there will be plenty of photo opportunities until then.
You can contact us by email or by telephone (01308 488341) to find out more, or to make a booking. Alternatively, you may prefer to attend one of our specific bird photodays, which include lunch, tea and some tuition as well as plenty of bird and mammal photography. Or, we can arrange a similar photoday experience for your own group. Attached you will find a sheet of information regarding the Happy Return woodland bird photography experience.
Best wishes
Susy

Basingstoke Camera Club 2013 BPE Exhibition
Dear Sue,
Basingstoke Camera Club National Open Photography Exhibition 2013
Closing date 1 Mar 2013
I thought you would like to know about the Basingstoke Camera Club National Open Photography Exhibition. Our Exhibition has been running for many years and its reputation has been growing steadily, attracting extremely high quality images from across the UK, chosen by highly respected judges.
We are a BPE (British Photographic Exhibitions) Member Exhibition and have the honour of PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain) patronage. Images accepted into the 2013 Exhibition will count towards BPE Crown Awards.
We have five entry classes: Nature, Monochrome, Portrait, Creative and Open, and we think our entry fees represent excellent value! We accept only digital submissions and have a very easy to use online submissions website. PayPal may be used for payment which means that the whole process can be carried out without resorting to paper entry forms or CDs.
Full details of the Exhibition, and award-winning images from the last four years can be found on the Exhibition website at:
http://basingstokecameraclub.co.uk/exhib/index.htm
I feel sure our exhibition would interest and benefit many of the members of clubs affiliated to your Federation, and I'd be very grateful if you would pass the attached flyer on to those clubs for onward distribution. If you are unable to pass the flyer on, please do let me know.
Many thanks for your help.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Bright, Exhibition Secretary
