Photographers needed.

Hallo, I am a director of Music for Wellbeing CIC, which works with older people with longer term health conditions (particularly dementia and lung conditions) and adults with learning disability.

In partnership with the Friends of Salisbury Medical Practice, we have been awarded funding to run a project to extend the existing singing for lung health group and offer introductory courses in breath management through singing. 

To cut a long story short, I hadn’t anticipated doing a launch event for the project, but circumstances have lead us to this point! The project will launch on 21st September and The Chapel is donating a room for it to happen. The Salisbury Breathless Singers (who are the regular singing for lung health group) will be joined by the Salisbury Pluckers (local ukulele band), and I am trying to organise food through the Pantry Partnership.

I wondered if there was a keen photographer at the camera club who might like to photograph the event for us - and how much would it cost to do so? I don’t have a budget for a professional, but would obviously expect to pay something for a keen amateur.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lynn Ireland. I am the manager of The Wilton Emporium, a charity superstore on the A36 Warminster Rd, behind Reeves the bakers.

My reason for getting in touch is because we have an event here on Saturday 7^th September.  A Steampunk Fair, this is where people dress up and imagination runs wild!

These events are normally attended by expert photographers, who take pictures and then sell them. Is this something that your members would like to do please?

APPENDIX THREE DEFINITION OF NATURE TO BE USED IN PAGB COMPETITIONS 

Note that images already meeting the separate FIAP Definition of Nature will satisfy this less restrictive definition.

Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archaeology, in such a fashion that a well-informed person will be able to identify the subject material and certify its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality while maintaining high technical quality.

Scientific bands, scientific tags or radio collars on wild animals are permissible.
Photographs of human created hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, domestic animals, or mounted specimens are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the
photographic statement. Processing of the captured image, by cropping, exposure adjustment, colour correction, noise minimisation, dodging/burning, HDR, focus stacking and sharpening, is allowed.

Cloning of image defects and minor distractions, including overlapping elements, are permitted when these do not distort the truth of the photographic statement. Images entered as Nature can have landscape, geologic formations, weather phenomena, and extant organisms as the primary subject matter. This includes images taken with the subjects in controlled conditions, such as zoos, game farms, botanical gardens, aquariums and any enclosure where the subjects are totally dependent
on man for food. Access to biological subjects may be restricted. By entering a PAGB event,
necessary licences.

To make it easy, it’s basically as follows

The Following are OK
 All wild animals
 Animals in zoos, parks, aquariums etc
 Animals with tags, collars etc.
 Plants, Geology, Weather etc as defined above
 Minor post production work outlined above

The following are not OK
 Domestic animals, Feral animals, Cultivated plants
 Manipulation of image to change the actual truth

Tribute to the Late Bill Wisden MBE HonFRPS

Exhibition of Prints by the Late Bill Wisden MBE HonFRPS APAGB

Jubilee Library, Brighton from Monday 11 February to Saturday 23 February 2019

This exhibition is a celebration of the life and work of the distinguished Brighton photographer Bill Wisden MBE Hon FRPS.

Bill was a member of the Brighton & Hove Camera Club from 1954 until his death in January 2018 and in honour of his talent, achievements and generosity we as a Club wish to honour Bill’s work.

He will be remembered by many for his passion for photography and the amazing generosity of his time spent helping others to develop their own photography. He was always happy to give an honest opinion on a photograph and had the gift of immediately seeing the strengths or weaknesses of an image.

Whether it was in the dark room or later digitally, using Photoshop, he constantly pushed the boundaries and produced work that was well ahead of its time. Bill would refer to himself not as a photographer but as an image maker.

He won many awards and was well known internationally for his astute composition, humorous juxtapositions, use of colour and, later on, the digital manipulation in his images, creating, what he fondly called, “Wisdens”.

Amongst his many distinctions was that he was invited to become the youngest member of the London Salon of Photography in 1962.

A year later in 1963 he gained his Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and over the years he worked tirelessly to promote and improve the RPS by serving on numerous boards and panels.

In 2011 Bill was awarded an MBE for his services to the Arts.

This exhibition is only a small part of Bill’s photographic life and is a mixture of his revolutionary darkroom prints and the digital work that he came to embrace even though he once swore he would never go digital. “I’m too old and you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. How wrong he was! He was so ahead of what others were doing in the early days of Photoshop.

Brighton & Hove Camera Club wants this exhibition to be a tribute to a man who is still greatly missed and will continue to be missed by everyone who loved him and learned so much from him.

We will be hosting Pete Whieldon who has a passion and commitment for Natural History Photography.
He will be talking through some of his photos (a few shown below) and how he achieved them.
He will talk about his travels, ongoing projects he has, places he has been, and what can be
photographed from his own backyard. He has hides available at his site in Otterbourne, Hampshire, where plenty of wildlife such as Owls, Raptors, and Kingfishers can be seen for photography.

Lecture: The Windows of your Mind by Barry Mead FRPS

Barry’s talk will illustrate the development of his computerised creative work from 2000 till now. As a Fine Artist who taught Art for 30 years, Barry says the ideas have always come more quickly than the techniques.   The images he loves to make involve Fantasy and Sci-Fi with the influences of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and children's stories. He uses images collected from many visits to the Venice Carnival and re-enactments. His methods are fairly simple, but it's the combinations of elements, textured effects and many layers in Photoshop where the magic takes place. The hope is that you will be inspired and go home with a desire to try it for yourselves.

Barry will present around 400 images showing his imagination at full throttle.

An Invitation from Chichester Camera Club

Members of your Club are cordially invited to Chichester Camera Club's eighteenth advanced members' exhibition to be held on Saturday, 19th January 2019 at the North Mundham Village Hall. The exhibition will be open between 10 am and 5 pm with refreshments, light lunches and teas available throughout the day. If anyone cannot make it on the Saturday, we will be open on the following day (Sunday) between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. We will also have refreshments available on that day.

Print exhibitors have had the choice of varying screen spaces with the freedom to display virtually any type of work they wish with no rules on size, subject matter technique, etc. whilst PDI workers are each allowed to have up to 4 images projected, again with no subject ruling. Based on our

previous, similar exhibitions, this freedom of choice has resulted in a considerable display of artistic talent. The day has also proved to be a great social occasion.

We hope you will be able to visit us and look forward to meeting you on the 19th January. 

Your members may also be interested in another event involving the Chichester Camera Club - an exhibition exploring the history and images of the Club since its founding in 1893. LAST CHANCE FOR HAMPSHIRE RESIDENTS TO ENTER ART COMPETITION

Now open to anybody in the Andover area.
As mentioned, we’re in the last week of taking entries for our art and photography competition. We are looking for entrants to take photos or produce pictures highlighting the natural beauty in Andover and its surrounding areas – the competition is going to be judged by Pip McGarry, world renowned wildlife artist and the winner will receive £500, with two runners up getting £100.

Time is running out for people in Hampshire to submit their entries for an art competition which is being run by Pure Cremation, the leading direct cremation specialist behind the new Charlton Park Crematorium in Andover.

As the deadline of Friday 14th December approaches, Pure Cremation is calling on people to capture Andover in a work of art, to be in with a chance of winning £500 as well as the opportunity to have their art publicly displayed when Charlton Park Crematorium is opened in spring 2019.

With Pip McGarry, one of the world’s leading wildlife artists and the ‘Artist-in-Residence’ at Marwell Zoological Park, lined-up to perform guest judging duties, the creative competition is open to residents of Hampshire who are over 18.

Works of art can be submitted in any form, as long as they can be hung on the walls of the new crematorium; so photographs are welcomed, along with drawings or paintings created in any medium such as oil, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, watercolour or pastel

Entries, which should be clearly labelled on the back with the entrant’s name, address and contact details, can be posted to: Charlton Park Crematorium Art Competition, C/O McCann PR, Pure Cremation Team, Communications House, Highlands Road, Shirley, Solihull, West Midlands, B90 4WE. The Origins of Photography:

A brand new exhibition with Salisbury at its heart

The New Year gets underway at The Salisbury Museum with a brand new exhibition looking the history of the photographic process, using wonderful images of Salisbury as a guide. The Origins of Photography in Salisbury 1839 – 1919 opens on 19 January and runs until 4 May 2019.

This exhibition is co-curated by Anthony Hamber, who is an independent photographic historian. He was born and brought up in Salisbury, where his father was a medical GP. His book Photography and the 1851 Great Exhibition (Oak Knoll Press and V&A Publications) was recently published to accompany the opening of the V&A Photography Centre. Previously, Anthony’s study of William Blackmore, one of the founders of the Salisbury Museum, was published as Collecting the American West: The Rise and Fall of William Blackmore (Hobnob Press, 2010).

Starting with the rise of photography in Salisbury during the first decade or so of the medium’s existence, this exhibition will tell the story of the development of both amateur and commercial photography and the processes and formats used. Amateur photography started in the city during the 1840’s, but it was following the Great Exhibition in 1851 that commercial photography really took off in earnest. 

Salisbury is a beautiful and photogenic medieval city, with the Cathedral and Close at its heart. This exhibition will transport the viewer back in time to see Salisbury Cathedral and views of the city, but at the same time, reflect on the evolution of the photographic process and technique of photographers over the years. Using the rich archive of images from Salisbury Museum and including images from the British Museum, the exhibition will also show photographs of the Blackmore Museum and major events, like the 1906 rail crash and 1919 Peace Pageant, to tell this compelling story.

Anthony Hamber says, ‘This exhibition provides an insight into the richness and diversity of the photographic holdings of Salisbury Museum, documenting the city, its architecture and daily life.’

From daguerreotypes, calotypes and albumen prints, to glass plates and rolls of film, this exhibition will take you on a photographic journey of discovery, with the city of Salisbury and its people, at its heart.

Hello,

I’m just touching base and emailing you to let you know that BJP International Photography Award 2019 is open for submissions until 20 December 2018.

The award has long as established itself as an entry-point into the photography industry, and has been credited with launching the careers of some of the industries most recognisable names, such as Juno Calypso [my U3A group Practical Photography love Juno's work as seen at Messums recently], Chloe Dewe Mathews and Daniel Castro Garcia.

I’d love to communicate the awards to your photographers to ensure they don’t miss out on an amazing opportunity to win a solo show at renowned gallery, TJ Boulting in London UK as well as international press coverage and the chance to be featured on BJP-Online.

Nothing further heard about the Awards in AV. We have one prospective applicant from our Fed but it will depend upon the minimum being achieved in the next few weeks - time is short bearing in mind the Christmas break.

Chichester Camera Club at the Novium

Greetings from Chichester Camera Club

We're having a mayor exhibition in the Novium (Tower Street, Chichester) Museum from the 24th November 2018 to 10th March 2019 tracing the history of our club and displaying some contemporary work.

Obituary for Ivor Smith

Ivor was a member of Salisbury and Ringwood Camera clubs for many years. In Salisbury he wins his first Trophy in 1983 and his last in 2008/9. You can see all this information and every other Trophy winner in Salisbury CC from 1954 HERE

Ivor used to run a repair garage in the village of Broad Chalke. He had a collection of prints he made of the village. I believe he found the glass negatives in the village. He gave copies to the church.

Ivor Smith has died

My father Ivor Smith passed away on 25th October at the age of 91. 

He was a member of the Salisbury Camera Club for many years and his name is on some of the trophies. 

His funeral will be at 1:45 pm on 12th November at the Salisbury Crematorium with a gathering afterwards at the Queen’s Head, Broad Chalke.
